Harness Vest VS. Cape Vest

So a common question we get is "what is the difference between one of your service dog harness vests and one of the service dog capes"?

The answer is style and versatility - if you were to lay the products out flat, you'd be able to see noticeable differences in the style and curves. When on the dog, the service dog cape tends has a very straight-edged look to it whereas the harness vest styles have a more "athletic" cut to them.

The difference in functionality is also worth noting.
  • If your dog is going to continue using their collar and is just looking for a lightweight, identifying garment, then the service dog cape vest is probably the best choice.
  • If you want an all inclusive service dog vest that has many features, you may want to consider a harness style vest like our Service Dog Harness Vest or our Mesh Air-Tec Service Dog Vest (junior sizes available as well). With this style of service dog vest, you can attach a leash as well as take advantage of our many accessories made for these style of vests. Some of these accessories include the bridge handles, backpacks or ID holders.
It should also be mentioned that all of these vests share the same quality fabric - by selecting one style or another, you are certainly not compromising quality in any way.

Additionally, all the vests we manufacture feature our built in safety webbing - this means that somewhere on the service dog vest you will find our Reflex webbing. This webbing has reflective tracers woven throughout it and can be seen in low-light situations to keep you and your working dog safe. This is a standard feature.

As always, if you need help with selection, feel free to get in touch with us - we're here to help. We also have a convenient How to Size Your Dog for a Service Dog Vest chart on our site to help you measure.
